Manual or electric?
Manual recliners use a lever or a pull handle on the side; they cost less and need no power. Electric (power) recliners glide to any position with a button and stop wherever you like; they need a socket nearby and are much easier for anyone with limited strength. Almost every range we sell is available either way — browse manual or electric.
Which seats recline?
On a 3 seater it's usually the two outer seats; on a 2 seater, both. Corner recliners typically recline the end seats only. If a fixed middle seat matters to you, say so — some ranges offer three reclining seats.
Power features worth having
Beyond the recline itself, look for a power headrest (so you can lie back and still see the TV), USB ports in the arm or the console, and a lumbar adjustment on premium ranges. Wall-hugger or standard?
A standard recliner tips back and needs 25–30 cm of clearance behind it. A wall-hugger slides forward as it reclines, so it can sit almost against the wall. If your room is tight, ask which type the range is.
Lift-and-rise chairs
For anyone who finds standing up difficult, a lift-and-rise chair reclines like a normal chair and also tilts forward to help you to your feet. Dual-motor versions move the back and footrest independently. We keep several on display, in fabric and leather — see recliner chairs.
Try before you buy
More than any other sofa, a recliner has to fit you: seat depth, where the footrest lands on your calves, and how far your head rests back. Ten minutes in the showroom tells you more than any description. We're open seven days.

Do electric recliners need a plug socket?
Yes, one socket per sofa; the seats are wired together. Some ranges offer a battery pack if the sofa sits away from the wall.
How much space does a recliner need behind it?
25–30 cm for a standard recliner; wall-huggers need as little as 10 cm.
