Electric vs manual — what is the difference?

A manual recliner uses a pull lever and takes a small amount of effort. An electric recliner adjusts at the touch of a button, smoothly and effortlessly. Electric models also tend to offer more reclining positions and extras like USB charging ports.

Do they need to be plugged in?

Yes, most models plug into a standard UK mains socket. Some come with a rechargeable battery pack instead, which means no trailing cables and more freedom over where you position the sofa.

How much do they cost to run?

Very little. On standby they use around 14W, costing roughly 10p per day. In active use it works out at just a few pence for a typical evening. Running costs are minimal.

Are they suitable for elderly people?

Yes, they are an excellent choice. No physical strength is needed to recline, making them ideal for anyone with limited mobility. If you need even more support, our lift and rise chairs are designed to gently raise you to a standing position at the touch of a button.

How much space do I need?

Allow at least 30 to 40cm of clearance behind the sofa so the backrest can fully recline. If you have a smaller room, look out for wall-hugger models in the range, which are designed to recline while staying close to the wall.
